Ice Cream Bites

Cool off this summer by transforming your ice cream into a bite-sized (and mess-free) treat. Set out the ice cream to soften, and then use an ice cream scoop to carve out individual servings. Arrange scoops on a pie tin, sprinkle with desired toppings and then pop them in your freezer for quick, single-serving and refreshing bites.

Life Aquatic

Ever notice how hosting a kid’s pool party can leave your backyard looking like a gypsy campground? Avoid the eyesore by turning a household ladder into a makeshift towel rack. That way the kids can each hang their towels on a rung after they dry off, and you won’t have to worry about plucking stray towels out of your landscaping all summer long.

Picnic Pests

If ants are trying to crash your outdoor party, try using chalk dust to make a barrier between the bugs and your food. Start by using a hammer or meat tenderizer to smash large chunks of sidewalk chalk in a zip lock baggie, then sprinkle a line of chalk around the entire perimeter of your outdoor soiree to keep your sandwiches and lemonade ant-free.

Protect Your Protector

Sunscreen loses its effectiveness when it overheats, so if you’re planning on spending the day at the beach or by the pool, pack your SPF in the cooler, instead of your bag. For day-to-day use, don’t leave a bottle baking in your car. Instead, carry a small stick applicator in your purse or pocket for quick and convenient touchups on the go.

At Home Apothecary

Time flies when you’re having fun in the sun, which is why we usually don’t notice a sunburn until it’s too late. For immediate burn relief, try freezing a mixture of chopped cucumber and aloe vera juice in an ice cube tray, and then apply individual cubes directly to the skin.
