Choosing to start a collection of gold coins is a wonderful hobby, a great way to learn more about the history of money, and a nice topic of conversation when you are at dinner parties. You need to learn about the coins, as well as the best places to buy them before you start buying and amassing your amazing collection.

Of course, once you have your gold coins at home, you need to know what to do with them. Some people keep their coins in coin books and protective cases. They may leave them in their study or their bedroom and forget about them until they are ready to add another coin to their collection. However, doing this can cause some problems. If you are not careful with the coins, you may cause damage without even knowing it.

Heat and humidity can be bad for your coins.

You want to keep your coins in an environment that is as controlled as possible. That doesn't mean that you have to keep all of your gold coins in a vault at the bank, but it does mean that you want to have some added protection. One of the best ways to do this is to invest in a safe.

When you are choosing your safe, you do not want to buy the cheapest model that you can find. A poorly made safe is not going to do you much good. You also need to make sure that the safe is large enough to hold all of your coins safely. You don't want to cram those precious rare coins together. You should still have plenty of room in the safe for all of your other important paperwork.

Make sure that the safe is heavy as well, and then bolt it to the floor. If someone were to break into your home and see a safe, that's one of the first things that they will try to walk away with. Do not make it easy for them. You may also consider investing in a good home security system to add another level of protection to your home and coins.
